Welcome, Lalla!

We are so excited to welcome Lalla Sydnor Johnson to our staff! Her first day in the office was today (Monday, July 17). Please warmly welcome her by giving her a call or dropping her an email! We will celebrate her new ministry with us on July 30 at our combined 9:45a worship service. You can read her letter from the June tidings below!

Hello St. John’s!

I am thrilled to serve as Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries! I am a lifelong parishioner of our beautiful church. My mother, siblings, both of my children and I were all baptized at St. John’s. I enjoyed years of Sunday school, youth group, children’s choir, Christmas pageants and pancake dinners (these included awkward family photos, of course).

Lynchburg City Schools prepared me for a liberal arts degree at Hollins College. I majored in vocal performance and studied elementary education as a backup. I have spent the last twenty-six years teaching 2nd grade, 3rd grade and elementary school music (with roles in community theater sprinkled in occasionally, I clearly needed the backup LOL). I am so happy to have the opportunity to continue working with families and youth in a new capacity!

My goal is to build a sustainable youth ministry for our babies, children, tweens and teens. Mind you, this will not happen overnight. It takes time, money, dedicated volunteers and a willingness to show up and participate.

I will need your help; join me in returning to our special parish, our worship life, and our fellowship together!

Lalla
